{Crape Myrtle Capital of Texas}

This is an old post that has been sitting in my drafts for the longest. However, I saw that today's "I'll show you" prompt was 'around my hometown' and it kind of fit. Just a little bit about the oh so charming place that I call home.

Waxahachie is known as the Crape Myrtle Capital of Texas . Crape Myrtles are just gorgeous and I love how these are everywhere in our town. We even have a Crape Myrtle Festival each year complete with a parade, cookout, live music and then fireworks. Unfortunately the festival is always during the 4th of July weekend and we are always out of town camping. One of these days we will catch it!

Nathan and I planted a crape myrtle shortly after we moved into our first home. It's taken a while for it to grow and normally only blooms very few buds. Well, we came home from our Canton Camping trip and I literally scared Nathan by screaming "Look at how full our Crape Myrtle is!!!" I couldn't help it. I was so excited. We think it's because of all of the typhoon rain we had this Spring. Whatever it was, I am grateful! I love seeing it every time we pull up to the house or when I sit on my back porch.

     And I especially love it because it's the only tree on the front/side of our property right now. We had one other that provided really good shade, but the last storm we had in May split it in half. We were so sad. We have a lot of trees at the back of our property, but they are all in Jake's {mini donkey} area. I think it's time we planted some more trees.

Is your town designated "capital of" anything?

  3. They are SO beautiful. We used to have some as big as our garage before the tornado. I never planted any new ones though.
